Beaver Dam, Fourth-class city in Dodge County, Wisconsin.

Beaver Dam is a fourth-class city in Dodge County, Wisconsin, situated along Beaver Dam Lake. The town comprises residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and recreational spaces that blend together in a compact community setting.

The settlement began in 1841 when early residents established homes in the area, growing steadily through the 1800s. During World War II, the community served as a prisoner of war camp, reflecting the town's role in the broader national effort.

The name comes from Native American heritage, as the Anishinaabe people called this location Okwaanim, referring to the beaver dams that once shaped the landscape. Local place names and community traditions still reflect this connection to the natural world.

The best way to explore the town is to walk through the downtown area or drive through the different neighborhoods at a leisurely pace. Local businesses, restaurants, and parks are spread throughout the city, and the Chamber of Commerce can help visitors get oriented.

During World War II, a prisoner of war camp operated in town to house captured German soldiers during the conflict. This chapter of local history is often overlooked but shaped the community during those turbulent years.
