Pulaski, County seat in Giles County, Tennessee
Pulaski is the county seat of Giles County in southern Tennessee, located roughly 80 miles (130 km) south of Nashville. The town spreads across gentle hills, with residential neighborhoods that cluster around a central courthouse square.
The settlement was established in 1809 as the administrative seat for the newly formed Giles County. During the Civil War, control shifted multiple times between Confederate and Union forces, leaving deep marks on local memory.
The name honors Kazimierz Pułaski, a Polish officer who fought in the American Revolutionary War. Many buildings around the central square reflect pre-Civil War architecture that still shapes how the town center appears today.
Most shops and public offices cluster within a few blocks of the courthouse building. Street parking is generally easy to find during daytime hours, making it simple to explore the center on foot.
The town shares its name with at least 16 other places across the United States, but it remains the only one serving as a county seat in Tennessee. This distinction often leads to confusion when planning travel or mailing packages.
