Subaru Park, Soccer stadium in Chester, United States
Subaru Park is a soccer stadium on the shore of the Delaware River in Chester with room for over 18,000 spectators across covered and open seating sections. Alongside the rows of seats there are boxes, a grass playing field and a concert platform that takes advantage of the water views.
The stadium was built between December 2008 and June 2010 making it one of the more recent Major League Soccer grounds in the region. The design came from the architecture firm Rossetti which had already created several sports facilities across the United States.
On match days the riverside grounds become a meeting point where supporters wear scarves and jerseys while gathering for food before kickoff. The name recalls the Japanese automaker visible through a partnership with the local soccer team.
Getting there means using Interstate 95 and 476 or taking regional trains that stop at platforms within walking distance. On match days arriving earlier helps because parking fills quickly and security checks at the entrance take time.
On the grounds fruits and vegetables grow in a garden whose harvest goes to neighbors and local groups. This connection between sport and food is fairly rare for a professional stadium.
