Lake Point Tower

Lake Point Tower is a high-rise with curved glass walls that spans 70 floors, featuring a distinctive Y-shaped floor plan with three wings extending from a central triangular core. The building combines residential units with extensive amenities including swimming pools, fitness facilities, and dining options.

The building opened in 1968 as the world's tallest residential structure at that time, designed by architects who studied under the influential modernist Mies van der Rohe. Its innovative design set new standards for residential high-rise construction.

This tower stands alone as the only high-rise east of Lake Shore Drive, marking the waterfront with its glass facade and slender profile. Its position right by the water makes it a distinctive landmark in the city.

The grounds are open for visitors to explore, offering a pleasant spot for walking right by the water, especially on warm days. The best time to visit is late afternoon or early evening when the sun begins to set over the lake.

A private park sits on the building's base with a playground, duck pond, and waterfalls designed by landscape architect Alfred Caldwell. This hidden green space offers an unexpected retreat in the middle of the urban environment.
