Ferncliff Cemetery, Urban cemetery in Hartsdale, United States.
Ferncliff Cemetery is a burial ground with three community mausoleums, a crematory, a small chapel and an administrative office in Greenburgh, United States. The grounds cover a wide area with paths that wind through maintained lawns and clusters of trees.
The cemetery opened in 1902 as more people from New York City moved to the northern suburbs. The Cathedral of Memories mausoleum was added in 1927, offering an alternative to traditional ground burial.
Many musicians, actors and writers who shaped American culture during the 20th century are buried here. Visitors often come to pay respects at the graves of jazz legends, entertainers and civil rights figures.
The grounds are large, so driving or walking along the main roads helps reach different sections. Paths are mostly paved and level, making it easier to move around.
The crematory handles about one-tenth of all cremations in New York State, even though it sits in a relatively small town. The mausoleum area uses Oriental rugs on marble floors to soften footsteps and create a quieter setting.
