Lord & Burnham Building
Lord & Burnham Building, Historic brick factory building in Irvington, United States
The Lord & Burnham Building is a historic brick structure with three distinct sections and a mansard roof that spans across Main Street. Its many large windows flood the interior with light and display typical construction features from the 19th century.
The building was constructed in 1881 following a fire and became the headquarters of the Lord & Burnham Company. The company left the factory in 1988, but the structure remained and is now used for different purposes.
The building shows how industrial structures changed their role in the community, and its architecture still draws people interested in exploring its past. The open spaces remind visitors of a time when craftsmanship and manufacturing shaped daily life here.
The location is easy to reach on foot and sits in a residential neighborhood with other shops and facilities nearby. The area is simple to navigate, and there are parking options available close by.
The company that operated here developed the first iron-framed greenhouse structure in the United States, a breakthrough in horticultural technology. This creation was later built for the Lyndhurst estate of a major railroad businessman.
