Sunnyside is a mansion in Tarrytown built in Dutch Colonial Revival style, featuring stone walls, stepped gables, and a Spanish tower overlooking the Hudson River. The residence blends the original farmhouse structure with later additions that Irving incorporated to express his personal taste.

The property began as a farmhouse in the early 1800s and underwent major transformation when Irving acquired it, redesigning it according to his romantic vision. The changes he made represent the architectural ideals of his era and shaped the house as visitors see it now.

The house displays original furnishings and personal items from Irving's time, including his study where he developed many stories that would become classics of American literature.
