The First Baptist Church features a 125-foot stone spire, gabled slate roof, and intricate exterior detailing made from bluestone with brownstone accents.
The structure, designed by architect Russell Sturgis, was constructed between 1875 and 1881 with a total cost of $10,000 to replace an earlier 1847 building.
The church interior displays Honduran mahogany furnishings, including original pews, lectern, pulpit, and decorated stained glass windows throughout the space.
The building includes modern Sunday school classrooms in the rectory and maintains regular religious services while supporting local and international mission programs.
The adjacent rectory, completed in 1896 through Rockefeller family donations, features Roman brick construction with a red Vermont slate hipped roof.
