Kykuit, Historic mansion in Pocantico Hills, Mount Pleasant, United States
Kykuit is a 40-room mansion set on a hilltop in Pocantico Hills, near Sleepy Hollow in New York State. The property includes geometric gardens with fountains, terraces, and modern sculpture collections distributed across several levels.
The estate was completed in 1913 and served as home to four generations of the Rockefeller family, beginning with John D. Rockefeller, founder of Standard Oil. Later residents expanded the interiors and added art collections that now form part of the public tours.
Nelson Rockefeller transformed sections of the mansion into an art gallery, displaying works from Picasso, Warhol, and other 20th-century artists.
Tours depart from the Philipsburg Manor Visitor Center by shuttle bus, and there are three different options that require advance booking. Access is available for visitors aged ten and older, with tours lasting several hours.
The mansion has two basement levels connected by tunnels and passages that once served as service areas and storage rooms. Visitors can explore parts of these underground spaces on certain tours, offering a glimpse into the workings of a large household.
