Scarborough Historic District

The Scarborough Historic District is a 376-acre area in Scarborough-on-Hudson containing 26 protected buildings from different periods. The collection spans residential homes, churches, and other structures that show how this place developed from the late 1700s through the early 1900s.

This district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, officially recognizing its historical importance. The buildings span from the late 1700s through the early 1900s, showing how this Hudson Valley area continued to grow and change over time.

Two historic churches, Saint Mary's Episcopal Church and Scarborough Presbyterian Church, shaped the spiritual life of this community for centuries. These buildings remain gathering places that reveal how deeply faith was woven into daily life here.

Walking is the best way to explore this area, allowing you to pass by the various buildings and structures at your own pace. The Clear View School and Sleepy Hollow Country Club serve as helpful landmarks to find your bearings while moving through the district.

Sparta Cemetery is one of the oldest burial grounds in Westchester County and was touched by combat during the American Revolution. A cannonball fired from the HMS Vulture struck near this burial site, leaving a rare mark of the conflict that reached this corner of the Hudson Valley.
