Fort Christian

Fort Christian is a stone fortification with distinctive diamond-shaped bastions at its corners, featuring walls between 3 and 6 feet thick. The structure overlooks the harbor and now contains a museum within its walls.

The fort was built between 1672 and 1680 under Governor Jørgen Iversen Dyppel's oversight and served as the hub of Danish colonial administration. It played a central role in controlling Danish trade and managing the islands for decades.

The fort houses a museum that documents the Danish colonial era in the Virgin Islands, offering visitors insight into this historical period. The exhibits show how Danish rule shaped the lives and culture of the region.
