BP Pedestrian Bridge, Pedestrian bridge in Chicago
The BP Pedestrian Bridge is a girder footbridge in the Loop community area of Chicago.
Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry and structural engineer Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, it was opened to the public in 2004.
The bridge is known for its signature style that represents Gehry's unique, artistic architectural design.
Though classified as a pedestrian bridge, its acoustical shielding properties make it functional as a noise barrier from the traffic noise of Columbus Drive.
It is the first Gehry-designed bridge to have been completed.
