Waxhaw, Historic town in Union County, North Carolina, United States

Waxhaw spans across rolling hills at an elevation of 209 meters, featuring a downtown district with preserved 19th-century brick buildings and storefronts.

The railroad's arrival in 1888 transformed this settlement into a regional trading center, establishing its economic foundation through cotton and textile production.

The town name originated from the Native American Waxhaw tribe, who inhabited the region before European settlers arrived in the 18th century.

Located 30 minutes from Charlotte, Waxhaw provides residents with multiple parks, specialty shops, antique stores, and dining establishments along its main streets.

The Howie Gold Mine near Waxhaw produced 50,000 ounces of gold before World War II, marking the town's connection to North Carolina's mining heritage.
