Blowing Rock

Blowing Rock is a mountain town situated on the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains at approximately 3,300 feet in elevation. The area features a mix of residential areas, small shops, and natural landscapes with forests and steep terrain.

European settlers arrived during the 1750s and established homes in this mountain region. By the late 1800s, the area had developed into a popular mountain resort destination attracting visitors from across the region.

The rock formation that gives the town its name creates an unusual updraft caused by strong winds from the Johns River Gorge. This effect is powerful enough that light objects thrown over the edge are pushed back before falling down the slope.
