Gurabo, Municipality in eastern Puerto Rico, United States
Gurabo is a municipality in eastern Puerto Rico, located about 32 kilometers southeast of San Juan in the United States. The area spans roughly 3 square kilometers and sits at a modest elevation of around 60 meters above sea level.
The municipality separated from Caguas in 1815 through efforts led by Luis del Carmen Echevarría. The name evolved from its earlier form Burabo.
The community celebrates the patron saint festival each March with traditional processions, regional dishes, and local performances. These celebrations reflect how the people here mark important moments and strengthen bonds with neighbors.
The municipality hall sits on Calle Santiago at the corner of Ángel C. Morales and is open Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. Visitors can go there to get information and handle local matters.
A distinctive feature is El Cerro, where painted stairs climb through the urban landscape. This stairway rises across multiple levels and stands out as a notable architectural element in the area.
