Buttermilk Falls State Park

The 165-foot multi-tiered waterfall forms the centerpiece of this 811-acre natural area, featuring gorges, hiking trails, and forested sections along Cayuga Lake.

The park received official designation as a New York State Park in 1924 to protect the natural cascade formations and provide recreational spaces for residents.

Native American tribes inhabited the lands surrounding the falls for generations, utilizing the water resources and establishing settlements in the fertile valley.

Visitors can access multiple parking areas near the base and upper entrance, with separate fees for vehicle entry and additional charges for camping facilities.

The distinctive cascade earned its name from the white foamy appearance of water tumbling down rock formations, creating patterns similar to flowing dairy products.
