St. Joseph's Abbey, Trappist monastery in Spencer, Massachusetts.
The monastery occupies a hilltop location surrounded by maple trees, pine forests, cultivated meadows, and open pastures spanning across the Massachusetts countryside.
Following a destructive fire at their Rhode Island location, the monastic community relocated to Spencer in 1950, establishing their new home on former farmland.
The monastery maintains traditional Trappist practices through daily prayers, manual labor, and the production of goods, including preserves and formerly, Spencer Trappist Ale.
The monastery retreat house contains eleven private rooms with individual bathrooms, offering scheduled retreats from Monday to Friday or Friday to Sunday.
The monastery's preserve production facility processes over 1.7 million jars annually, continuing a tradition that began with mint jelly in the 1950s.
