Spencer State Forest, State forest and recreation reserve in Spencer, Massachusetts.

The 965-acre forest contains numerous trails through wooded areas, including segments of the 92-mile Midstate Trail connecting Rhode Island to New Hampshire borders.

The forest, established in 1922, incorporates the former estate of Elias Howe, who invented the lockstitch sewing machine in the nineteenth century.

Visitors participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling throughout different seasons.

The forest opens from sunrise to sunset, offering free parking facilities, picnic areas near Howe Pond, and multiple access points for trail exploration.

Three separate land parcels form the forest, with the Howe Pond section featuring a mill pond and dam constructed during the industrial period.
