Ithaca College, Private university in Ithaca, United States
Ithaca College is a private higher education institution in the city of Ithaca in New York State and sits on an expansive site on South Hill. The location holds buildings for academic instruction, stages for performing arts, research spaces, and athletic facilities for more than 6,000 students.
William Egbert established the institution in 1892 originally as a conservatory for music and then gradually expanded it to include other fields of study. The move from downtown to the current location on South Hill took place in 1968 and brought more space for the growing number of students and programs.
The music school at the college is one of the oldest training institutions of its kind in the United States and attracts students from many countries. You often encounter ensembles and orchestras rehearsing or performing in the halls across campus.
The campus sits south of the city center on a hilltop and is reachable by car or public transit. Visitors should note that the grounds are large and walks between buildings can take longer than expected.
The institution has operated a study center in London since the early 1970s and offers students opportunities for stays abroad in Europe, Australia, and California. These programs run for several weeks or an entire semester and provide courses in different fields of study.
