Sleeping Giant

The mountain range extends across 1,439 acres of protected land, featuring basalt cliffs, dense forests, and numerous hiking paths throughout the Connecticut landscape.

The preservation of this natural site began as a response to quarrying activities that threatened to alter the mountain's distinctive profile in the early 20th century.

Native American folklore explains the formation as the result of the spirit Hobbomock being cast into eternal sleep by Keitan for diverting the Connecticut River.

The park includes 40 miles of marked trails, featuring the accessible Tower Trail and the more demanding Quinnipiac Trail for different hiking experiences.

The natural reserve hosts over 125 bird species and contains multiple microclimates, creating distinct ecosystems within its boundaries.
