Master Apartments, Art Deco skyscraper in Upper West Side, Manhattan, United States.
The Master Building is an Art Deco skyscraper standing at the corner of Riverside Drive and West 103rd Street in the Upper West Side with a distinctive multicolored brick facade. The exterior displays a graduated pattern shifting from purple to white tones, accented with terracotta ornaments on the setback terraces above the 14th floor.
Built in 1929 by architects Harvey Wiley Corbett, Sugarman and Berger, it was Manhattan's first building to feature corner windows. This innovation in window design allowed for new types of living spaces and natural light that were groundbreaking at the time.
The building once housed a school for artists and offered space where creative people could live and work together. This history of supporting artists has shaped the character of the place.
The building contains over 300 residential units of varying sizes and operates with full-time concierge service. Located on the Upper West Side, it offers easy access to nearby parks, museums, and public transportation.
The corner windows were a completely new construction technique at the time, allowing views in directions that were previously impossible. These corner positions became highly sought after by residents and gave apartments an unusual advantage.
