Wollman Rink, Ice rink in Central Park, Manhattan, United States
Wollman Rink is an outdoor ice rink in the southeastern section of Central Park in Manhattan, United States. The area spreads between rows of trees and offers skaters views of the surrounding towers and green spaces of the park.
Kate Wollman donated a considerable sum from her brother's estate in 1949 to establish this recreational facility. Before its conversion to an ice rink, the site served as a concert stage during summer months for well-known musicians.
The facility carries the name of the donor family Wollman and brings together New Yorkers who glide across the frozen surface or watch from the edge. On warm weekends, athletes gather here for pickleball, keeping the space active throughout the year.
The facility opens on weekday mornings and evenings, with longer hours on weekends. Visitors should bring warm clothing, as temperatures on the open space can be lower than in the city.
The ice surface disappears in summer and turns into fourteen pickleball courts set to remain until 2026. This unusual dual use makes the site one of the few urban facilities hosting two such different sports throughout the year.
