A. E. Burckhardt House, Victorian mansion in Avondale, Cincinnati, United States.
The A.E. Burckhardt House was a large Victorian residence in Avondale featuring over 30 rooms spread across two and a half stories, with multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. The structure combined Romanesque and Queen Anne elements into a unified architectural design.
The house was built in 1887 by architect Samuel Hannaford and served as the residence of A.E. Burckhardt, a furrier from Bavaria. Financial difficulties led to the property changing ownership in 1902.
The house displayed the architectural preferences of wealthy Cincinnati residents in the late 1800s, blending Romanesque and Queen Anne elements into a single design. These styles were markers of social standing and taste among the affluent families of that era.
The house was located on Forest Avenue in Cincinnati and served various purposes after the early 20th century. Visitors should know that the structure no longer exists as it was demolished in 2022 and can only be seen through photographs and historical records.
The property was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, granting it official recognition as a historic landmark. Despite this status, it was completely demolished in 2022 and removed from the landscape.
