Bear Branch Nature Center

Bear Branch Nature Center is a museum and nature facility sprawling across 320 acres with five miles of trails, a planetarium, and an observatory. The exhibits showcase local wildlife and offer multiple ways to explore the natural surroundings.

The land was acquired by Carroll County in 1972, and the nature center opened in 1993 as part of the county's environmental education initiative. This establishment marked the region's commitment to conservation and public environmental learning.

The center displays birds of prey and reptiles in naturalistic settings that show how these animals live in the region. These live creatures form the heart of the educational experience and allow visitors to connect directly with local wildlife.

The facility is easily accessible via walking trails and offers both indoor and outdoor areas to explore. Plan to spend several hours here, and bring weather-appropriate clothing for the trails.

The grounds feature a restored 19th-century log cabin that gives visitors a glimpse into early settlement in the area. There is also an observation beehive where visitors can watch an active bee colony, along with a Discovery Room containing games and puppets for children.
