Bear Creek Baptist Church

The wood and stone structure stands as a testament to 19th-century religious architecture with its rectangular layout and traditional Baptist design elements.
Built in 1860 during the American Civil War, Bear Creek Baptist Church became the first organized Christian congregation in Adair County, Missouri.
The church cemetery contains the graves of early settlers, including Samuel Withrow, the first postmaster of Adair County who died in 1852.
The Bear Creek Cemetery Association of Adair County maintains the church building, adjacent cemetery, and surrounding property for preservation purposes.
A boulder with a commemorative plaque was placed at the site in October 1946 to mark its position as Adair County's first established church.
