C. H. Burroughs House, Queen Anne residential architecture in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The C. H. Burroughs House is a brick residential structure with a stone foundation, featuring three distinct facade sections and a prominent round turret topped with a conical roof. Its interior contains seventeen rooms decorated with original brass chandeliers, ornamental fireplaces, carved woodwork, and detailed crown molding.
Architect Samuel Hannaford designed this residence in 1888 on the grounds of the former Lane Theological Seminary. The building blends Queen Anne architectural elements with Romanesque Revival influences.
The property became a gathering place for the Cincinnati Federation of Colored Women's Clubs starting in 1925. It served the community as a space where people could meet freely without racial barriers.
The house is located in an established residential neighborhood in Cincinnati and is easily accessible on foot. Plan your visit in advance, as access to the building may be limited to specific times or occasions.
The building underwent a major restoration in 1998 that reinforced its structural foundation and preserved its integrity. This comprehensive project ensured the house would remain stable for decades to come.
