The octagonal limestone tower rises 18 meters above Lake Erie, featuring a third-order Fresnel lens that guided ships through Buffalo Harbor.
Built in 1833 to replace an earlier 1818 structure, the lighthouse directed maritime traffic during Buffalo's emergence as a major Great Lakes port.
The Buffalo History Museum now displays the original Fresnel lens, connecting visitors to the maritime heritage of the Great Lakes region.
Located near the United States Coast Guard Station, the lighthouse offers public tours during summer months through the Buffalo Lighthouse Association.
The structure maintains its original location and stone foundation, representing the oldest standing lighthouse within Buffalo city limits.
