USS Croaker, Attack submarine and museum ship at Marine Drive, Buffalo, United States.

The USS Croaker is a Gato-class submarine now serving as a museum ship at Buffalo Naval Park. Visitors can explore the original equipment onboard and see the eight torpedo tubes that were used during World War II.

The submarine was built in 1944 and conducted six patrols in the Pacific, sinking several Japanese vessels. After the war, it was modernized to detect Soviet submarines during the Cold War.

The ship tells the story of submarine warfare in the Pacific and shows how sailors lived and worked in cramped spaces together. Walking through the tight corridors gives a sense of the daily challenges the crew faced.

Plan to spend about 45 minutes exploring all areas of the vessel during a guided tour. The narrow spaces require careful movement, so comfortable shoes are recommended.

The boat retained its original paint and many details from the 1940s, making it a rare time capsule. This authenticity allows visitors to experience the reality of naval warfare from that era in a direct way.

This ship that sailed under polar ice opens its doors

Hallways made of metal so narrow that you walk sideways, beds stacked in groups of three where sleeping seemed impossible, and control rooms where men made decisions in complete silence: enter these open-to-the-public submarines and see what life beneath the sea is like.
