Calhoun Beach Club

Calhoun Beach Club is a Colonial Revival structure in Minneapolis, Minnesota that houses residential apartments alongside recreational facilities. The building features arched windows, stucco exterior walls, and contains swimming pools, tennis courts, and handball courts for residents and members.

Construction began in 1928 but paused during the economic crisis of the 1930s, resuming and finishing in the years after World War II. The completed building then became a key social hub for the surrounding neighborhood.

The club emerged as a social gathering spot where residents and members came together for swimming, sports, and recreational activities by the lake. It shaped how people in the neighborhood spent their leisure time, becoming a focal point for community interaction and informal gatherings.

The location sits directly by the lake and offers easy visibility from the surrounding roads. Visitors can access indoor facilities during colder months or enjoy outdoor activities by the waterfront during warmer seasons.

The building earned historic designation in 2003 and holds the distinction of being the oldest high-rise residential structure outside downtown Minneapolis. This rarity makes it notable as an early example of residential development away from the city center.
