Camp Androscoggin, Summer camp in Wayne, Kennebec County, US
Camp Androscoggin is a boys' summer camp on a lake in Wayne, Kennebec County, Maine. The grounds cover a large area with sports fields, tennis courts, and a long stretch of shoreline used for water activities.
The camp was founded in 1907 by Edward M. Healy, who came from Pratt Institute and started with just seven campers. Over the following decades it grew steadily, adding a Junior Camp in 1937 for younger boys.
Camp Androscoggin runs programs in woodworking, pottery, and theater that give campers a range of hands-on experiences throughout their stay. These activities shape the daily rhythm of the camp and how boys spend their time together.
The camp welcomes boys between the ages of 7 and 15 and runs on a seasonal schedule during the summer months. Outside of that period the property is generally not open to visitors, so any trip should be planned with that in mind.
In 1995 and 1996 the camp hosted Seeds of Peace, a program that brought together young people from different countries to talk and listen to one another. It was an unexpected role for a summer camp on a lake in rural Maine.
