Century Flyer, Train ride at Conway Human Development Center, US
The Century Flyer is a narrow-gauge train running on a 2-foot gauge track that extends about one-third of a mile across the grounds of Conway Human Development Center. The tracks rest on two wooden trestles that support the entire rail structure.
National Amusement Devices built this train in the early 1950s, and it first operated at Burns Park Funland in North Little Rock before being relocated in 1959. The train eventually moved to its current location at Conway Human Development Center and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
The Central Arkansas Model Railroad Club maintains this vintage train with dedication and care. The group ensures that the train stays in working condition and runs regularly for visitors.
The train is located at 150 East Siebenmorgen Road and can be easily reached from Conway Human Development Center. Visitors should know that the train primarily serves the center's patients, so visiting hours and access may vary depending on the facility's schedule.
This train is one of only a few operational National Amusement Devices trains still running today, making it a rare survivor from American leisure history. Its narrow gauge and small size were typical of amusement park rides from that manufacturing era.
