Chatham County Courthouse

Chatham County Courthouse is a two-story brick building with a classical portico and three-stage cupola located at the heart of downtown Pittsboro. The structure features symmetrical facades and period architectural details typical of late 19th-century civic buildings.

The building was constructed in 1881 as the county administrative center. Between 1959 and 2013, it underwent major transformations including significant renovation work and restoration following a fire.

The courthouse first floor houses an exhibit detailing Chatham County's history, while the second floor maintains an active courtroom for legal proceedings.

The building sits in a central downtown location and is easily accessible on foot. As an active courthouse, some areas may have restricted access during business hours.
