Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a 295-acre property featuring native plants, woodland trails, ornamental gardens, and waterfront sections along the Back River. The grounds include diverse garden zones, each showcasing different landscape styles and plant collections.

The gardens opened to the public in 2007 when local residents transformed an undeveloped coastal area into a public horticultural space. This conversion of raw land demonstrates community commitment to preserving natural areas.

Educational programs offered at the gardens teach visitors about local plant species, sustainable gardening methods, and Maine's natural environments. These initiatives help people understand how plants fit into the regional ecosystem and why conservation matters.

The grounds feature accessible paths and electric vehicle charging stations in the main parking area. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing for outdoor walking and watch their footing on trails during wet conditions.

During winter months, the grounds transform into a glowing landscape when the Gardens Aglow event illuminates the property with thousands of LED lights from November through December. This seasonal display turns evening visits into a special visual experience.
