The 295-acre garden contains numerous native plant species, woodland trails, ornamental gardens, and waterfront areas along the Back River.
The garden opened to visitors in 2007 after local residents transformed an undeveloped parcel of coastal land into a public horticultural space.
Educational programs at the gardens teach visitors about native plant species, sustainable gardening practices, and Maine's natural ecosystems.
The gardens maintain accessible paths throughout the grounds and offer electric vehicle charging stations in the main parking area.
During winter evenings, the Gardens Aglow event illuminates the landscape with thousands of LED lights from November through December.
