Danes Hall, clubhouse in Waupaca, Wisconsin
Danes Hall is a clubhouse built in 1894 in the Queen Anne style, located near Waupaca's train depot in Wisconsin. The building features a large ballroom with 18-foot ceilings, meeting rooms, and detailed woodwork characteristic of the architectural period.
Danes Hall was designed by architect William Waters of Oshkosh in 1894 as a gathering place for the Danish community and completed in less than four months. The building served the Danes Home Society for about 50 years, later became a sheet metal shop, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
Danes Hall originally served the Danish community in Waupaca as a gathering place called Danes Home, where residents celebrated, met, and maintained a library of over a thousand books. The space helped immigrants preserve their heritage while building connections in their adopted country.
The building is easily accessible near Waupaca's Main Street and close to the train depot. Visitors can view the historic architecture from outside, and may explore the interior during special events when the hall is open for weddings, meetings, and community celebrations.
Danes Hall was once a lively dance venue with a large ballroom and balcony where the community held graduations and military drills. The building experienced a revival when it hosted its first wedding in 2019 after many years, proving its continued importance to Waupaca's community.
