Eagle Rock Reservation

Eagle Rock Reservation is a nature reserve spanning 408 acres across West Orange, Montclair, and Verona, featuring forest trails, streams, and rocky outcrops. The landscape sits at the edge of the First Watchung Mountain.

The Essex County Department of Parks established this protected landscape to preserve natural areas in the region. The name comes from a distinctive rock formation that sits between Montclair and West Orange.

The memorial dedicated to September 11 victims features names inscribed in marble at a scenic overlook facing Manhattan. Visitors come here to pause and remember while taking in views across the city skyline.

The reservation is accessible by foot through several well-marked entrances that offer parking and picnic areas. Most visitors come during daytime hours, especially in warmer months when the trails are easiest to navigate.

The reservation contains multiple streams that support deer populations throughout the wooded areas. From the eastern ridge, visitors can see the New York City skyline on clear days.
