Eleazer Arnold House, Stone-end colonial house in Lincoln, United States.
The Eleazer Arnold House is a two-story stone dwelling from the late 1600s with four rooms on each floor. The distinctive design combines fieldstone walls on the gable ends with wooden walls on the side elevations.
The house was built in 1693 and ranks among the oldest European-style stone houses in New England. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1968 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1974.
The house is named after its original occupant and shows how colonial families organized their living spaces for daily life. The room arrangement and construction methods reflect how early settlers actually lived and worked.
The house is located on Great Road in Lincoln and welcomes visitors on weekends. Check ahead to see which rooms are accessible, as not all areas are always open to the public.
The construction method with fieldstone gable ends originated in southwestern England and became common among early colonists in northern Rhode Island. Tree rings in the wooden sections were analyzed scientifically in 2005 to confirm the exact construction date.
