Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum, Contemporary art museum at Michigan State University, East Lansing, United States.
The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum is a contemporary art museum located on the Michigan State University campus in East Lansing. Its steel and glass facade features slanted walls and geometric forms across roughly 4,300 square meters (46,000 square feet).
The museum opened in November 2012 following major funding from philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad to Michigan State University. The design by Zaha Hadid Architects brought the institution international attention and established it as a cultural landmark in the Midwest.
The museum name honors donors Eli and Edythe Broad, whose support opened the collection to the public and the university community. Students often use the exhibition spaces for seminars and creative discussions, making the building an active learning environment.
The museum opens Thursday through Sunday from 10 AM to 6 PM and charges no admission for visiting the permanent collection and rotating exhibitions. The site sits within the campus, so walking from parking areas may take around ten minutes.
The building appeared in the film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, where its angular lines and mirrored surfaces served as a futuristic backdrop. Architect Zaha Hadid designed only a few museum projects in North America, making this structure a rarity in the region.
