Erie Zoo, Municipal zoo in Erie, Pennsylvania, United States.
The Erie Zoo is a facility on 15 acres within Glenwood Park, home to over 400 animals and 600 plant species spread across 11 botanical gardens. Visitors experience a blend of animal exhibits and plant displays in a single location.
The facility began in 1924 with a single elephant named Tom-boy and grew over decades through a significant donation from the Robert Evans estate. These early years shaped what is today a major regional destination.
The zoo displays habitats where animals act out their natural behaviors, helping visitors understand how different species live in the wild. This approach to exhibition makes clear why protecting these environments matters.
The zoo operates from March through November, with daily hours from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes, as there is much ground to explore on foot.
The zoo received a 2 million dollar grant in 2024 to build a new veterinary center during its centennial year. This new center will improve medical care and research at the facility.
