Equestrian statue of Simón Bolívar, Bronze equestrian memorial in Foggy Bottom, United States.

The bronze statue shows Simón Bolívar on horseback, raising his sword overhead while wearing a military uniform with George Washington's gold medal.

The Venezuelan government presented this statue to the United States in 1959 as a symbol of friendship between the two nations.

Felix de Weldon's sculpture stands at the intersection of Virginia Avenue and 18th Street, representing Latin American independence near the Department of Interior.

The memorial stands 27 feet tall, weighs 8 tons, and visitors can access it through Farragut West or Foggy Bottom metro stations.

The statue required disassembly into five separate pieces, including the head, neck, and rider, for transportation from New York to Washington DC.
