Akhsikath, Archaeological site in To'raqo'rg'on District, Uzbekistan.

The fortified settlement stretches across 30 hectares along the Syr Darya River, containing defensive walls with five entrance gates and multiple excavation areas.

Founded in the 3rd century BC, Akhsikath developed into the capital of Fergana Valley by the 9th century until its destruction by an earthquake in 1620.

The city functioned as a central point on the Silk Road, where merchants from China, Asia Minor, and Byzantium exchanged textiles, ceramics, and metalwork.

Archaeological excavations at the site revealed numerous clay artifacts, ceramic pieces, horse harnesses, and ancient coins dating from the 9th to 11th centuries.

The settlement produced Damascus steel in kaolin-lined smelting furnaces, creating metal products that gained recognition in distant cities like Baghdad and Damascus.
