Municipio Caroní, Administrative division in Bolívar State, Venezuela
Municipio Caroní is an administrative region in Bolívar State that contains four urban areas: Pozo Verde, Rosario, Moruca, and its capital Ciudad Guayana. The Caroní River divides the municipality into distinct zones.
The area began in 1724 with a Spanish colonial mission called Purísima Concepción de Nuestra Señora del Caroní. It was not officially recognized as a municipality until 1989.
The area functions as an education hub, with several universities training specialists for local industries and shaping the rhythm of daily life. These institutions draw students from across the region and influence how the community develops.
The municipality is best accessed through Ciudad Guayana, which serves as the main hub connecting to all four urban areas. Water routes also offer alternative ways to travel between different parts of the region.
The Orinoco and Caroní rivers meet within this region, creating a crucial crossing point for commerce. This junction has long been how minerals and goods move between the inland areas and coastal zones.
