Bạc Liêu

Bạc Liêu is a provincial city in Vietnam's Mekong Delta that serves as the administrative center of its province. Located around 195 kilometers northeast of Ho Chi Minh City, it functions as a regional hub for agriculture, fishing, and salt production.

The city was formerly known as Vinh Loi before taking its current name. During the 1950s, it became an important center for the Hoa Hao religious movement led by Huynh Phu So.

The name Bạc Liêu comes from Chinese pronunciation of the Khmer name Pol Leav, showing how different cultures shaped this Vietnamese region. You can see this blending of influences reflected in how local people speak about their city's past and identity.

The city has a small airport and hospital offering basic services to visitors. The best time to explore is during the drier months when streets are more accessible and walking around is easier.
