Tuyên Quang, Administrative province in northeastern Vietnam
Tuyên Quang is a province in northeastern Vietnam that covers a wide area of mountain ranges, river valleys, and forested slopes. The terrain rises from low riverside zones to high peaks covered in dense forest and linked by narrow roads.
The province was formed in the 1960s through administrative reforms that reorganized the northeastern highlands. In the 1980s, additional families settled when the government promoted programs to develop remote valleys.
The name comes from the river that flows through the valleys and connects the settlements. Markets in the larger towns sell handwoven textiles and bamboo tools still used in daily life.
Several bus lines run daily from Hanoi and take about four hours to travel through the mountains. Most settlements lie along the main road, while smaller villages are reached by unpaved side paths.
In some remote valleys, families cultivate cinnamon trees, stripping the bark in thin sheets and laying it on wooden racks to dry. The scent of drying cinnamon fills the air when you walk along the paths between the houses.
