Angstig konijn, Public sculpture in Flevopark, Amsterdam-Oost, Netherlands
Angstig konijn is a three-meter-tall rabbit figure made of polyester and steel framework located in Flevopark. The form displays a distinctive face with an expressive snout and ears pressed tightly against its head.
The work emerged from a citizen petition in 2018 that gathered over 1500 signatures calling for its creation. Funding came through support from the Mondriaan Fonds and WeTransfer.
The sculpture expresses contemporary artistic practice within public space and reflects artistic courage and authenticity that is rooted in Amsterdam's creative scene.
The sculpture is freely accessible in Flevopark during park opening hours and can be viewed from multiple angles along the park paths. Green spaces surround the work, making it easy to walk around and observe it closely.
The work was created by Dutch artist Piet Parra and functions simultaneously as a self-portrait of the artist. The fearful expression of the rabbit humorously plays on the concerns of those who regularly criticize festivals in the park.
