Gjermundbu helmet, Viking helmet at University of Oslo, Norway.
The Gjermundbu helmet features a peaked cap design constructed from four iron plates with protective elements covering the head and neck regions.
Discovered in 1943 by Gunnar Gjermundbo during field clearing near Haugsbygd, the helmet dates back to the 900s and resided in a burial mound.
The helmet remains among five known Viking helmets and represents the military equipment standards of Norse warriors during the Viking Age period.
The Museum of Cultural History at the University of Oslo maintains the helmet fragments through advanced conservation methods including X-rays and 3D scanning.
Research indicates connections between the helmet owner and the Kievan Rus, based on similarities with armor pieces found in Eastern European burial sites.
