Ryvarden Lighthouse, Coastal lighthouse in Sveio, Norway
Ryvarden Lighthouse is a coastal beacon in Sveio, Norway, featuring a 10-meter tall square wooden tower painted white with a red lantern mounted at its top. The structure stands on a rocky headland and is clearly visible from the water.
The beacon was established in 1849 to mark the southern shore entrance to Bomlafjorden and operated with keepers until its automation in 1984. This shift eliminated the need for permanent staff presence.
The site hosts rotating art collections from spring through winter and features a gallery, museum, and cafe housed in the former keeper's residence.
The site is accessible from land with parking available near the buildings for visitors. The best time to visit is during daylight hours when the gallery and museum are open.
A memorial on the grounds honors sixteen people who lost their lives in the 1999 Sleipner disaster. This monument connects the site to a significant maritime tragedy.
