Bjølsen Valsemølle, Industrial heritage site in Sagene, Norway
Bjølsen Valsemølle is a grain mill on the east bank of Akerselva with large concrete silos and several processing buildings. The facility still processes grain today and produces flour using modern equipment.
The mill was founded in 1884 as a grain trading company before expanding through purchases of nearby facilities. Over time it became a major flour production center in Oslo.
The mill represents the continuation of a milling tradition along Akerselva that dates back to 1220 when Hovedøyklosteret first processed grain in this location.
The facility sits directly on the riverbank and is easily accessible from the city center. Visitors can view the architecture from outside, though the production areas remain in operation.
From 1918 to 1967 a special tram called the 'Korntrikken' transported grain directly from the harbor to the processing plants. This unusual solution allowed efficient movement of large grain quantities through the city.
