Tanahun District

Tanahun is an administrative district in Gandaki Province that spans hilly terrain between tropical and subtropical zones, with Damauli functioning as the main administrative center. It consists of multiple urban and rural municipalities spread across varied geography.

The administrative headquarters shifted from Bandipur to Damauli, marking a pivotal change in regional governance structure. This relocation reflected the area's evolving economic and demographic development over time.

The district is home to diverse ethnic communities, with Magar people forming a significant portion alongside Hill Brahmins, Gurungs, and Chhetris. These groups maintain distinct traditions that shape local celebrations, languages, and daily practices across the region.

Chimkeswori, the highest point in the district, serves as a junction for multiple hiking routes and offers views across central Nepal's landscape. From this elevated vantage point, visitors can see across the surrounding hillsides and valleys on clear days.
