Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape, Protected area in Quezon Province, Philippines
Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape is a 149-hectare (368-acre) natural area with forested hills, rivers, and streams in Quezon Province. The terrain combines dense woodland with active water sources that flow year-round through the region.
The area was protected in 1939 through Presidential Proclamation No. 365 by Manuel Luis Quezon, initially designated as the Maulawin Spring Watershed Forest Reserve. This protection order prevented logging and ensured the long-term stability of the water supply serving the region.
The landscape serves as the main water source for tens of thousands of people in Guinayangan and surrounding communities, sustaining local farms and villages. Residents depend directly on the springs and streams flowing from these forested hills for their daily needs.
The area can be reached by provincial road connecting to the Pan-Philippine Highway near Calauag or via walking trails starting from Sisi and Calimpak. Visitors should be prepared for wet conditions since the landscape stays moist year-round from rainfall and flowing water sources.
The forest is home to rare birds like the Philippine dwarf kingfisher and rufous hornbill that thrive in this particular woodland. Equally notable are the crab-eating macaques and Philippine deer that depend on this forest as a refuge from surrounding developed areas.
