Mount Apo, Dormant stratovolcano in Davao Region, Philippines
Mount Apo extends across three territories - Davao City, Davao del Sur, and Cotabato, reaching an elevation of 2,954 meters above sea level.
President Manuel L. Quezon designated Mount Apo as a National Park in 1936, establishing protection for 199,819 acres of diverse ecological zones.
The name Apo comes from indigenous peoples' term for respected elder, with local communities performing traditional rituals led by shamans called diwata.
Hiking trails to the summit start from Kidapawan City, requiring three to four days for a complete round trip through mountain terrain.
The mountain contains four major lakes, nineteen rivers, and twenty-one creeks, supporting 272 bird species including the Philippine eagle.
